The first month of the H’ijri calendar. .Allaah’s sacred month of Muh’arram is a blessed and important month. It is one of the four months during which it is forbidden to wage war or fight.
SUPPLICATION FOR THIS MONTH
Read the following supplication as many times as possible during this month.
Bismillaa hir Rawh’maa nir Rawh’eem. Laa h’aula walaa quwwata illaa bil-laahil a’leey-yil a’z’eem.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. There is no might and no power except by Allaah’s leave, the Exalted, the Mighty.)
NAFL SALAAT FOR THE EVE OF A’ASHURAH (10thOf Muh’arram)
On the eve of A’ashurah offer 4 rakaats Nafl Salaat as follows: In every rakaat after Surah Faatih’ah recite “Aayatul Kursee” once and Surah Ikhlaas 3 times. After completing this Namaz recite Surah Ikhlaas 100 times. Allaah Taa’alaa will purify such a person of all their sins and grant them endless bounties and blessings in paradise.
THE TENTH OF MUH’ARRAM (A’ASHURAH)
The tenth day of Muh’arram (A’ashurah) has many distinctive qualities and features. Allaah Taa’alaa created the heavens and the earth on this blessed day. On this day He gave His infinite blessings and bounties to many of His Prophets (A’laiyhis-Salaam) and delivered them from the clutches of their enemies.
Allaah Taa’alaa created H’azrat Aadam (A’laiyhis-Salaam) in this month, pardoned him of his mistake, and H’azrat Nooh’s (A’laiyhis-Salaam) Ark landed successfully on Mount Judi, and he saved H’azrat Ibrahim (A’laiyhis-Salaam) from fire and rescued H’azrat Moosaa (A’laiyhis-Salaam) from(Fir-a’un) Pharaoh.
According to H’adees’ one should:
1. Fast on the 9th and 10th or 10th and 11th of Muh’arram.
The Holy Prophet (Saws) has exhorted and encouraged his Ummah to fast on this day. Abu Qataadah (RA) narrates that the Holy Prophet (Saws) was asked regarding the fast of the day of A’ashurah (10th of Muh’arram). The Holy Prophet (Saws) replied: “It is a compensation for the (minor) sins of the past year”. (Muslim)
One should also observe the fast of the 9th Muh’arram to safeguard his deed from resemblance with the non-believers who only fast on the 10th Muh’arram.
The Holy Prophet (Saws) said: “Observe the fast of A’ashurah and oppose the Jews. Fast a day before it or a day after.” (Baiyhaqee). Hence, it is important to fast either on the ninth and tenth of Muh’arram or the tenth and eleventh
2. Spend (in the way of food and drink) on one’s family on the day of A’ashurah (10th Of Muh’arram)
One should be generous on one’s family and dependents and spend more on them than what is normally spent. Abu H’uraiyrah reports that the Prophet (Saws) said: “One who generously spends on his family on the day of A’ashurah, Allaah will increase (his provision) for the whole year “. (Baiyhaqee). H’azrat Abdullah bin Masood (Radi Allaah Ta-a’alaa A’nhu), a Companion of the Holy Prophet Muh’ammad (Saws) reports the following saying of the Messenger of Allaah (Saws), “Whosoever prepares ample food and drink for his family on this sacred day and delights in feeding them generously, Allaah Taa’alaa will increase His provisions for that year and place much blessings and good therein.”
Hazrat Imaam Zainul Abidain (Radi Allaah Ta-a’alaa A’nhu) reports that whoever recites this dua’a ( Dua’a-e- A’ashurah) on the tenth of Muh’arram, any time after sunrise and before sunset, or listens to its recitation from someone else, Allaah Taa’alaa will certainly make it an insurance for a years’ life for him, by keeping death away from him. However, if one is to become the victim of death in that year, they will by some strange coincidence not remember to recite it.

(In the Name of Allaah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
You who accepted the repentance of Aadam on this day of A’ashura;
You who delivered Yoonus from his burden on this day of A’ashura;
You who reunited Ya’qoob (with his son) on this day of A’ashura;
You who heard the plea of Moosaa and Harun on this day of A’ashura;
You who rescued Ibrahim from the fire on this day of A’ashura;
You who raised Idrees to heaven on this day of A’ashura;
You who answered the plea of Saleh with a she-camel on this day of A’ashura;
You who helped our Prophet Muh’ammad (Saws) on this day of A’ashura;
Merciful One in this lowly world and in the hereafter; O Compassionate One of the two abodes;
Bestow your grace upon our Prophet Muh’ammad (Saws) and upon the people of Muh’ammad(Saws), and upon all the prophets (AS) and all the messengers!
And grant us our need in this life and in the hereafter, and grant us many years in Your obedience and Your love and Your pleasure!
And return us to a life of purity and take us not (in death) except upon faith and submission by Your mercy, O You who is the most compassionate of all those who show compassion.
Allaah! By the honour of Hasan and of his brother, and that of his mother and that of his father, and by the honour of his Grandfather (Saws) and that of his children;
Here you may describe to your lord the difficulties that you may be facing and need relief from]. Relieve us of what has befallen us!
Recite 7 times:
Glorious is Allaah, as much as what is in
His great scale, and as far as His knowledge extends, and to such a degree
as it attains His pleasure, and to whatever weight may be His Throne; there
is no refuge and no safety from Allaah except in Him.
Glorious is Allaah, (He is declared so) as many as there be even
(numbers) and as many as there be odd, and as many as there be perfect words of His; glory be to Him for them all.
We ask of You (our Lord) for safety, by Your mercy, O You who is the most
merciful of all those who show mercy;
And it [Your Mercy] is our sufficiency and our best protection— the very best master and the very best help!
And there is no power and no strength except in Allaah, the High, the Great!
May the grace of Allaah, the Exalted, be upon our Prophet Muh’ammad (Saws) and upon his family and his companions, and upon the believers men and women, and upon those who submit (in Islam), as much as there be atoms in existence and as much as there be things known to Allaah; and all praise is due to Him, Lord of the Worlds.)
